I do adore little Essex though and even married my daughter off to them, so I can't bring myself to go to war with them even though I want the faction name change very badly. I'm absolutely peeved, and it only happened because I had to disband two armies due to the corruption penalty. My ally Essex followed this tiny army and just took the settlements for themselves, so now I have this ugly red line across my map, including across the provinces I need for the kingdom victory conditions. However, right at the end, Kent sent a tiny army across my territory and took 5 settlements before I could catch them. After a long war, East Engle, Essex, and I were able to defeat Wessex, Sussex, and Kent, with me taking the vast majority of their territory. I took Wales, Cornwall, and half the Viking shires while Wessex took the rest, minus East Engle, and even conquered Northumbria.Įventually Wessex and I were the two strongest factions by far, our relationship had gone to shit, so naturally I had to invade them. I partnered with Wessex early on and both our kingdoms grew pretty strong (Ceowulf the great warrior king has lasted my entire campaign without dying up to like age 64, still alive). As it's my first total war since fall of the samurai, I absolutely love the direction they took with the game and I actually think it's a huge improvement over what I've just been playing over and over again (Medieval and Empire). I just picked up Thrones of Britannia and LOVE it.
